LEGAL & POLICY FRAMEWORK​

Since independence, the Namibian Government has pursued free-market economic principles with a view to attracting foreign direct investment. The liberal Foreign Investment Act of 1993 provides for freedom from nationalization, freedom to remit capital and profits, currency convertibility, and a process for settling disputes equitably.

Key provisions of the Foreign Investment Act include:

Promotes free market economy in Namibia Equal treatment of local and foreign investors Full protection of investment No prescription of local participation Repatriation of profits Granting of Certificate of Status Investment (CSI)
